Formed by ancient lava reaching the sea, these natural cathedrals of basalt offer a calm sanctuary from the Atlantic surge. Local Intel: Park at the end of the banana plantation road. Visit at mid-tide—too high and the waves are dangerous; too low and the pools become shallow. Bring a mask; the volcanic rock formations underwater are spectacular.

An abandoned 1940s sanatorium complex that was never finished. A brutalist concrete skeleton standing against the desert wind. Local Intel: Best photographed at the "blue hour" just before sunrise. Local Intel: Access is restricted to public transport only between 10 AM and 7 PM to preserve the silence. Take the #369 bus from Buenavista. From the lighthouse, look west to see the giant silhouettes of La Gomera and La Palma across the ocean.
